Week of September 1, 2012

Sunday
We had a very quiet, but busy day. David and Amanda went to church in Corrine and that left just the two of us again. We ended up working for a long time on Grandpa Jensen's book.
Great news! Mike has really started to take off on doing Family History. He found a family and entered the information (after several phone calls) and later in the week he did baptisms.

Monday
We went to the movie with Mike and Ellen so it would seem like a holiday, but I forgot to take a picture. Then we went out to Uncle Bill's to get a tape of Grandpa Jensen's funeral so Dad could listen to it and see if there is anything there he wants for the book.
Conna with her little boy and husband. It was good to see them.

Tuesday
We always say we exercise every day, but here is proof!
Tuesday is 'Yoga' day. Dad is so much better at this than I am, so I had to get a picture.
I had D.U.P. at 12:30 and it was good to get back after the summer break. AND
We called the stake center and we have an appointment for next Tuesday for our MISSION INTERVIEW!

Wednesday through Friday
We really have been working many long hours on the book. Thusday quilting started back up after the summer break and it was good. Very glad to have wrist able to tie quilts - good therapy. After that we helped Malinda Forsberg do Family History at her house.
She is the convert, so there is a lot to do.
Dad picked 2 peaches on Thursday and we picked the other 10 on Friday. They were very small but very good! It's a start.

Friday
We were at the Family History from 9 to noon, but managed to go to the gym to work for awhile before. Mike needed a hair cut and they both needed to do laundry so they came that night. It was good to have them home for a bit.
Ellen with the beautiful sunset. It filled the cloudy sky.

Another picture. It was taken within 5 min. of each other. I think it is my cheap camera that makes the difference. It was nice and windy and cool.

Mike doing homework.

I got to play with Ellen's hair before we went to bed.
Now I will see if my grandchildren ever look at my blog. Ellen has written a new book. She's not all the way through with it, but was far enough to send me the 1st chapter. Then I asked for more so she sent me several more. Then I begged for more and she has sent me the first 5 chapters. I really like her book. It has quite a twist to it. And now I just discovered she sent me four more chapters, so I'm off to read them.
I think the older grandkids will like it!

Saturday
We left at 7:30 to go to Logan and then up to BYU-I for Ellen and Mike to see their old companions. We also took Mike's companion's best friend up with us. They are both from Wisconsin.
We went to the Rexburg Temple while they visited.

We decided to run up to Palisades while they were busy with companions. It was so good to go up and reminise and take some pictures. I imagine no one remembers much about living there since Chris was 1 1/2 when we moved up and Marion and Peter were born there.
We were there fall of 1972 to spring of 1975.
Entering Swan Valley

First house after the bridge where our former bishop, Bishop Kenneth Jacobson lived. His wife taught me so much about homemaking. I WAS SO YOUNG AND DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING!!!

Across the road from there.

Our churchhouse, Palisades Ward

Across the road was a little movie theater that was only open on Friday and Saturday nights. The Bishop owned it and the movies were very family oriented. We would take the kids and go quite often.

Full view of the church. Back then they didn't have nursery class like they do now. I didn't think we would ever get Christopher to stay in the Sunbeam class without one of us staying.
Inside the door of the school that Dad taught at. He taught 6, 7, & 8th grade Math, Science, Health, and Girl's P.E. The school was from Kindergarten to 8th grade.

They didn't have the fancy name when we were there, but that school is the same except it wasn't all brick.

The door he always went in. The school is actually in Irwin.

This is up at Palisades in the housing where we had a house.  It's not there anymore. They had government housing for workers at the dam. My brother Paul was in charge of the dam.  There were several houses empty and since the school teachers benefited the worker's children, he rented one to us and the other one to the other new school teacher that year. We paid about $49 to rent a three bedroom home with a garage and a garden spot. We loved it there. It was a close community.
Dad is standing where our house would have been.

The view from our front porch when I thought, "I can't imagine ever being happier than I am now."
I had no idea.

The garage

Uncle Paul lived just kitty corner from us. We were on the middle row and they were on the first row. There house is no longer there either. There kids absolutely loved little Chis who was one and a half years old when we moved there. Marion was born in October after we got there. Peter was also born in Driggs. He was only 3 months old when we moved and went to Provo so Dad could get his engineering degree.
So long ago! We were so very young. Just kids.

Palisades Dam

We had a picnic over on the other side of the lake.

View from the dam down to the valley.

The little "Dam Store" in Palisades.

We didn't catch anyone at home. Ray and Joyce Plocher lived just down the street from us and they never left Palisades, but moved behind the store. Dad taught 2 of their kids.  The neighbor was out front and we visited with them to catch up on who was still alive in the valley that we knew. Both Ray and Joyce are still living. It was 40 years ago. Maybe it was good we didn't see them, but just remembered them 'young.'

The home of our babysitter, Melony Weeks. We knew the whole family.

Dad said this was the last Elder's Quorum project. They built that little added on room on the left. It was a bathroom. They were the last house that still had an outhouse.

Of course, I don't remember the square ice cream, but Dad did. And the sign said they have been serving since 1946, so we shared a huckleberry square ice cream cone.

Ellen and Sister Papritz who is now married.

Mike and Elder Aikins

We all really had an enjoyable time, even though we didn't get home until midnight.

1828 Webster's Dictionary Word for the Week

Anchor- “In a figurative sense, that which gives stability or security; that on which we place dependence for safety.” (Ether 12:4 “Wherefore, whoso believeth in God might with surety hope for a better world, yea, even a  place at the right hand of God, which hope cometh of faith, maketh an anchor to the souls of men, which would make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, being led to glorify God.”)

I love you all. Have a wonderful week.
