Miscellaneous life & Evanston, January 18, 2015

Since I posted last

1. Life has settled down for a few days. We spent the afternoon in the BC temple
and it was wonderful. So good to be home.

2. Then I had my foot surgery the next day. The Dr. said it was minor foot surgery because it was my foot and not his. I laughed then, but not now. I have had such pain on the top of my left foot for a long time. I always thought it was my arches, and I've been to several Dr.'s, but it was never solved. This Dr. took an X-ray and I had bone spurs across the top of my foot. That is why it would hurt when I stood for long periods of time. Anyway, he opened my foot up, chiseled them off, closed it back up and it only took about 40 min. to do it. I wasn't going to take any medicine but ibuprofen, but once the stuff they gave me wore off, I changed my mind.
Me after I got home from the hospital

3. Friday was the only bad day. Saturday I only had to take Ibuprofen. Dad has been a wonderful nurse keeping ice packs on and taking such good care of me. It's much better to have surgery when he is not recovering from surgery also. Wasn't down too long,
I can't believe the pain is gone that I felt before. It is wonderful.

4. We have moved the bookcases out of the family room and in to Mike's room and the dining room.
Dad is going through all the books. We decided it was time to downsize. This has and is a huge job.

5. This one is now in the dining room because we couldn't get it in Mike's old room.

6. Sunday evening with Mike & Emily, and Chris's family.
Such a nice visit.

7. And Ellen and Daniel. Some good bonding time with Caleb!

8. The happy couple:)

9. Leaving to go back home.

10. Yeah! They don't have to say good-bye

11. These are all books Dad is getting rid of. There are quite a few good ones because we had so many duplicates. There are about 5 boxes so far. If you see anything you want, say so.
They will hang around here for several weeks at least, so drop by.

12. We've been trying to have a double date with Ellen and Daniel, and it finally happened.
We got in with a discount from Daniel. Hummm, I think he is my favorite son-in-law.
We really liked the Hobbit. A bit of fighting, but such a good message. We are currently watching the Lord of the Rings for a bit each evening as we do indexing and writing Daddy's history.

13. Had a good interview/visit with Janet and Ralph. She has a picture painted by
Grandma Ella Smith Capener's sister Luttie A. Smith. It has been good for me to learn about my Grandma Capener. I never really knew her very much.

14. Me and Janet (I took my glasses off so I would match her)

15. We spent Friday and Saturday up to David's to give them a hand.
Alaina and Matthew in hats from Carol Coleman. We had a good time and Dad was able to help David do some jobs and I had a good time working with the kids.
They are sure good workers!

16. And we had a fun time also! Matthew with sand art project that Alaina shared with him.

17. Alaina's sand art project.

18. Early morning snuggle and story time with Alaina and Matthew. (Dad caught me off guard)

I forgot to get a picture of one of the most important things I learned up there, at least according to Robert. He showed me how to play Super Mario on the Wii. I learned how to play!
Robert was a good teacher.
I love you all. I'm very thankful for each of you, and I desire to strengthen my relationships with all of my family this year. I really want to get closer to my family - my whole family.
I have been reading letters that my grandmother wrote to my father, and I think we miss too much in life by not writing to each other. Blogs keep you posted on what is happening with me and the family that I come in contact with, but nothing takes the place of personal letters written to each other.
So, write a letter. It's even ok if it's not written in long hand and sent in regular mail. There are some advantages to today's conveniences of email.

But some things never change - the expression of thoughts/feelings between each other.

Christmas party, Mike & Emily's Wedding, January 2014

Our Family Christmas Party

1. It's good to have it at the church where there is room to eat and room to play!

2. They promised me it wasn't poker, but it had something to do with betting different kinds of cold cereal. Tesha was the 'responsible adult.'

3. Love to see cousins who live so far away meet each other.
Zander and Levi

4. This is how we picked who would be first when I was there age.
Robert, Kaden, Caleb, Isaac.

5. Sword fights

6. Plenty of good food - I think Daniel will keep us

7. Maren and Alaina

8. Of course, we had skits back at our house.

9. Games down stairs!

10. More skits - I think Peter wants to join the next one

11. Danny and Noelle

12. Kirsten and Mallory

13. New Year's Day was wedding breakfast preparation time
for Mike and Emily.

14. John, Tesha, and Spencer helped so much

15. A big thank you to Daniel and Ellen for cleaning from the party the night before

16. We bought cucumbers for the salad bar and before Tesha knew that was what it was for,
she took a big bite out of it. She chopped up the rest!

17. Leah found the ice cream lid!

18. We forgot the Reeces Pieces for the wedding breakfast, so we picked it up before the wedding.

19. I have no pictures of the wedding. This is it. I am really depending on other people's pictures.

20. A great big "Thank you" to Sheila for helping in the kitchen.

29. Great visiting

30. Visiting with cousins. That is why we have decided to have the reunion this year with extended family.

31. The grand kids have had such a fun time decorating poor George. Once at Ellen's wedding and now at Mike's wedding. The car has been worth it just for the good time all have had.

32. Sunday - Little Amelia's baby blessing and Josh being ordained a Priest
Again, I am at the mercy of Colleen for pictures. We had a wonderful gathering here at home with Colleen's family and those of us that were left.
Zach eating the desserts.

33. Last picture of Joe's family. It was so wonderful to have them here.
Notice their hats. Carol Coleman still has a lot of hats left that she has made. They are so warm and so many colors. She will give them to any of our family that wants them.

I love you all so much. We had such so many wonderful gatherings. It was so good to see brothers get to visit with each other. Thank you so much for the family party.
It just wasn't right to take pictures of our family home evening. It meant a lot to me that we could all gather together for this time together. Almost we had our whole family. Maybe some day.

Little Amelia's blessing was so beautiful. It was such a wonderful day with Josh being ordained.
We are so blessed, and I am so thankful to my Father in Heaven for each of you.
