Week of June 23, 2013

Sunday
It was so good to see Silvia and her family at little McCartney's blessing. (Val's newest little one.)
Besides Val, Jensea, Tristi, Chandler, and Creighton were also there. Mark and Ruth were also there with their family.  You can sure tell Val likes the Beetles since his sons are Lennon, Harrison, and McCartney.  Here are some of the pictures.

Monday - Friday
I lost the camera, sorry. I know the pictures are the fun things to see. I took a few with my phone, but most of the week was taken up with therapy, gardening, working with Dad on his father's book, and helping Tricia Brown's daughter-in-law with her genealogy.  Oh, and also Home and Visiting Teaching.  I went to the doctor on Friday and I'm going to go to one therapy session next week. Hopefully that will be all.  I'll see what else I need to do and do it on my own.

Joe's family moved in on Thursday and it's good to have them back.

Friday
Went to the Family History Library, Visiting Teaching, Dr.'s and the play that night, Seussical the Musical.  Morgan Hawkes was Cat in the Hat.  The whole play was very good, but Morgan was, well, Morgan - it was amazing.

Ellen and Mike after the play.

Saturday
Cleaned my corner and found the camera.

We cleaned the patio and found this canopy.  Joe, Mike, and Tesha tried putting it on the castle.  It worked! We'll have it up for the reunion so it will be shady up there. I think we will have a lot of fun together and it will be so good to have all that can be here come. Thank you for making the effort. It just is good to see you together and the grandkids playing with each other.

Earlier in the week I went on a walk with Colleen and kids. Caleb loves to ride his bike, but not a helmet, so I told him this story.  It is now for all of you kids. When Aunt Silvia's family was traveling from Arizona to Utah one year they had a terrible car accident.  Silvia and some of the kids went to St. George to the hospital, but they needed to send Tristi to the Primary Children's Hospital.  I went to be with her.  While I was there, a 14 year old boy was in because he had been hit on his bike in his neighborhood.  He had several surgeries, but he didn't make it.  He died. The doctor said if he had of been wearing his helmet he would be alive.  Please, wear helmets, even if you just go for a short ride.  The next day when Caleb came down he had his helmet on.

Caleb in his helmet.

Joe, Tesha, Mike, Ellen, & Josh went to see the play. We watched Zach.
Grandpa putting Zach to sleep.

Chris and his family came down with their new family pictures. Just before they left, Noelle said your foot is as long as from your elbow to your hand. We all looked and said it seemed way bigger than your foot, so everyone was measuring - even Zander. It was true.  They measured their foot to their arm and it was the same length.

1828 Dictionary Word for the Week:
Undaunted/Daunted- “ Not daunted; not subdued or depressed by fear;”/Daunted-to faint or swoon, to repress or subdue courage; to intimidate; to dishearten” (Alma 57:20 “those two thousand and sixty were firm and undaunted”)

This was good for Dad and I. This gets really old and discouraging as slow as our bones are healing.  There is improvement, so we just need to not let it get the best of us as we are improving.
I love you all and look forward to seeing you.

Week of June 16th, 2013

Sunday
Dad went to Sacrament meeting today but needed to come home after that. I stayed the rest of the time.  It was good to be back.
Looking forward: THE WARD WILL BE DRY PACK CANNING AT OUR HOME ON THE 23RD OF JULY.  PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT ANYTHING SO I CAN ORDER CANS.
David and Amanda came Sunday night through Tuesday.

Matthew and Robert playing with the marble game.

Monday
David and the kids were here while Amanda took her brother to Logan. We had a good day with the kids and they had a good day.  We tired them out. Here is Robert having a nap.

That night Sue and the boys stopped in after the dentist. We fixed a big pan of mashed potatoes and turkey gravy.Ellen and I made bread sticks. I mixed the dough and she did everything with two hands, which was most of it.   They needed to pick up some things they left over the weekend and get a bucket for Spencer for trek. They also brought Mike home.

Spencer and Mike with Alaina

I had missed the Reflections concert on Friday, but they were singing at the nursing home. A. Margaret had told me about it and I was so glad to know I could still hear her sing.  Ellen and I went. They sang a beautiful song about music in my Mother's home. It made me cry thinking back of all the times my mother's beautiful piano music filled our home.
Margaret is the 2nd one over on the front row.

Tuesday
We babysat while David and Amanda went to the temple. They got home about 10:30 and headed out. Dad and Mike got home from the dentist and Ellen and I took him to work and then we went to the Logan temple. It's her fault. I told her to remind me we needed a picture, but she forgot.
We just had too wonderful of a time at the temple. The pie was pretty good too!

Wednesday
Seems like most of our time is spent with gardening and therapy and I didn't take any pictures this time. When it's just Ellen and I, we don't think of the camera.
After therapy, Ellen and I went to give Tesha a hand. She is busy packing up and trying to get sorted into boxes of "New Hampshire," "Storage," or "Riverside" boxes. They are hoping to move out of their apartment this weekend and come here until they leave in the middle of August. It will be good to have them closer the last month, so get ready for some good game nights!

Ellen is helping us by having a nap with Ben

We picked up Mike from work and then we talked about the Ragnar. He was in the race, but didn't know anything at all about when it started.  He had been sick earlier in the week and we were checking to see if Tesha could possibly run the first leg of it for him. She was kind of excited, but by the time we found out all the information, they said it was too late. He did end up trading for a different position for the first run that wasn't quite as long. It ended up he seemed to have a really good time. He said it would have been better if he had of known more of the people in the van. Rob also ran the race, but didn't start until Friday. So, WE THOUGH IT WOULD BE REALLY FUN TO RUN IT NEXT YEAR AS A FAMILY!! I know we have enough runners in our family (as long as Tom and Mel come out too), so start getting in shape.  I am a driver of a van:)

 Thursday
I had a dentist appointment in Brigham at 8:00, so gardening was cut short. I also stayed and had a cavity filled, so it took most of the morning. But I kept hearing from Mike and it was a relief to know he was feeling fine and completing his runs.
Dad and I went to Aunt Robinette's to meet A. Cathy and A. Anita so he could interview them for the last two chapters of his book on Grandpa. We had such a good visit.  I visited with Robinette while they talked. I don't know why I don't see her more. It was wonderful to just sit and visit. Next Sunday is Adam's farewell for those living close by at 9:00. He goes to the new MTC in Mexico on the 2nd of July.
Luckily my cell phone alarm went off just as we were ready to leave. Jeffrey had called earlier in the week to tell us of a game he had in Garland at 5:30. Mike had put it in my cell phone calendar and so so reminded us, or I never would have remembered. I need to learn how to do that! It was great to go to see him play. We went straight to his game.

Friday - Happy Birthday Sammi! A big 7 years old
Ellen and I were out irrigating the garden early Friday morning. It is really looking good and it feels good to be able to weed with a hoe and I even dug circles around the squash plants. I'm sure this all counts for therapy. We all headed out by 9:00 - Ellen taking Dad to therapy and me going to the Family History library. While there I worked on Dad's book the whole time. I am checking original sources with what has been typed so it will be right and proofreading Chapter 1. I feel I need to give him the extra time so he can finish it up. It has been so wonderful to read.
That afternoon it was more watering and gardening. I was very tired that night.

Saturday
Watering of the rest of the lawn and working on Dad's book. I think it was a 'down' day because the last few days had been so busy.
Sorry, not many pictures, so here is a preview for next Sunday. We went to Val Moore's baby blessing today in Clearfield.  It seems like yesterday we all traveled up to Cody, Wyoming taking Grandma Jensen and Uncle Marc to see Val blessed. Paul was only a few months old. I just don't know where time goes. More pictures next week.

Val holding Lennon and Harrison, Stephanie holding new baby McCartney, Elise and their oldest girl in the back and I forgot her name.
What a wonderful family picture!
He is teaching choir at a Clearfield Junior High & LOVES his job.

1828 Dictionary Word for the Week:
Precarious-“Depending on the will or pleasure of another; liable to be changed or lost at the pleasure of another;” (Alma 46:7 explaining the affairs of the church by the dissenters “the affairs of the people of Nephi exceedingly precarious and dangerous”)

It sounds like the time we live in today. There is so much out there to keep us from just remembering the simple truth. On the way to Val's we were listening to conference. It was President Uchtdorf's talk. Here is the last of it. I just needed to be reminded of the hope of Christ.

"My heart grieves for the many sorrows some of you face, for the painful loneliness and wearisome fears you may be experiencing. Nevertheless, I bear witness that our living hope is in Christ Jesus! He is the true, pure, and powerful entrance to divine enlightenment.
I testify that with Christ, darkness cannot succeed. Darkness will not gain victory over the light of Christ.
I bear witness that darkness cannot stand before the brilliant light of the Son of the living God!
I invite each of you to open your heart to Him. Seek Him through study and prayer . . . even after the darkest night, the Savior of the world will lead you to a gradual, sweet, and bright dawn that will assuredly rise within you.
As you walk toward the hope of God’s light, you will discover the compassion, love, and goodness of a loving Heavenly Father, “in [whom there] is no darkness at all."
There have been discouraging times this week, and it was a good reminder of where hope, love, and light come from.
I love you all, have a wonderful week.

Week of June 9, 2013

Sunday - Happy Birthday, Tesha

It was Stake Conference today. I had been working a little each morning on my talk. I had to keep cutting it down so I wouldn't take more than 15 min. It really made me think about Family History and how it is such a big part of the Plan of Salvation. We do Family History because Heavenly Father loves ALL of His children no matter when they lived. Living in this dispensation of fullness, it is up to us keep the promises we made to do temple work for our ancestors. It is a miracle the way we find names today.

Mike wanted to make cookies and he served them on the serving plate Nikki gave to me.

Ellen's mission companion, DaLynn Hsiao, came to get Ellen and took her for a few days to Provo.

Joe & family came by. Little children do not have a short attention span when they are doing something they are interested in. Zach and Ben played with the marble works for well over an hour.

Monday
I finally got around to thinning the beets, so Dad and I washed, blanched, and froze them. We had some for lunch and thyt were sooooo good. I'm sure they will heal our bones.

I took Dad to his first physical therapy appointment. I couldn't stay and watch. It brings back too many memories. This is not a joke but the truth: "The difference between a terrorist and a therapist is you can negotiate with a terrorist. It's true - no pictures.

Tuesday
I thinned the 2nd row of beets. Colleen had to take Josh to piano and Cierra and Noelle were at YW camp. Yea! I had help. They helped do some garden work AND helped to freeze more beet greens. We'll have more this week if anyone wants some.

Caleb & Mallory

Caleb took a picture of me getting the greens out.

Wednesday
Seems like all we do is gardening and therapy. Here is a picture of my wrist.

Luckily Caleb was here and loves to ride on the big farm equipment with the Capeners.

Thursday
The day before watering, so we called in more help to do the final weeding. I sent out the first of my "Gardening Analogies" by email to everyone for my monthly letter. If you didn't get it, let me know.

Yeah Dad!

Save those peas!

Mallory is quite the weeder!

Friday
It's time to irrigate the tomatoes. Ellen and I tried, but the two of us couldn't keep up with the watering. I needed both hands. So we called up Josh and Mallory and they came down with Caleb and we got most of it done before I took Dad to therapy.
Josh and Ellen irrigating.

Mike thought I should begin learning how to write my name with my left hand. I did get my stitches out today, Ellen came with me and she helped take them out. There was a long string and Dr. Bittner just pulled it. He asked if I wanted to, but I declined. Ellen accepted though. I've just to work it more.

Marion and the boys came later that night. This is me and Isaac playing Spot It.

This is Mar's new game, Risk Legacy. This is Steven, John, Marion, Spencer, and Mike. They sure liked it. Joe and Tesha came about 10:30 to stay also.

Front Room.  I'm afraid after they finished playing, Mike and boys stayed up late.

Marion brought 'knee medicine'.  It worked! Here's Dad with no crutches or walker.

Saturday
I can't believe how much work was done today. Marion finished up the whole lawn and orchard, Joe attacked the weeds in the squash & grape area, actually all over in the garden where there was a lot of weeds in walk ways. John kept busy with racking weeds and feeding them to the chickens, Spencer and Steven worked hard in the raspberries, and Jared & Isaac picked different places to work. Tesha worked hard in the carrots and tomatoes and Ellen weeded all the potatoes. I just can't say thank you enough. The yard and garden look so beautiful tonight. And the grapes are gorgeous! I had put some of them up on the wires, but couldn't get them all. Joe finished it up and they are beautiful. The pruning that David and Dad did in March has sure paid off.  Ellen had made a big pan of lasagna the day before so all we had to do was put it in the oven for lunch.

Steven, John, and Tesha

Spencer pulled the car up on the front lawn and Steven washed it.  It looks great. I rode with Spencer. I can't believe he is old enough to get a learner's permit already.

John, Isaac, and Mike cooking marshmallows and cookies for dessert.

Joe doing more mowing by the basketball court.

Done with the work. Now it's game time!
Steven, Spencer, Marion, Jared, Joe, and Mike

Have to have a game of Avalon!

It's been a good week. It is such a weight off our shoulders to have so much work done. Thank you all so much. We continue to heal, especially with the Krispy Kreme donuts!

1828 Dictionary Word for the Week:
I went back to the beginning of my list. May we have a beautiful worship service tomorrow at church.

Worship- “state of worth or worthiness.  The act of paying divine honors to the Supreme Being; Verb-To adore; pay divine honors to; to respect; honor with extravagant love and extreme submission ("And it came to pass that they did worship the Lord;" 1Nephi 18:1)

Week of June 2, 2013

Sunday
I was able to go to church while Ellen stayed home with Dad.  We have a lot to be thankful for that dad is home from the hospital and things look better in the recuperation process.  Sue brought the boys up and it was so good to visit with them again and Chris and Colleen's family came down and we had a good visiting and play time for several hours.

Ellen wanted a picture for her Facebook so she took this one of her nursing subjects.

 Monday

As I was doing my reading in the morning, I heard several honks of a horn.  It was the Book Mobil and I thought this is the official start of the Summer.  as Ellen walked through I told her to go get dressed and we walked down to the Book Mobil and stopped and got Noelle, Mallory and Caleb.
It was good to have Ellen here all day, we worked for an hour in the garden and got a lot of House work done.  Plus reading of Book Mobile books.

Nothing like the Country Book Mobil.  The Librarian is reading Caleb his books on Dump Trucks while the rest of us are loading up on books.

Tuesday

More work in the garden.
Dad decided he was tired of his beard after two weeks

and so he shaved it off.

While Ellen and I worked in the garden and harvested Cilantro, Radishes, Rhubarb and Lettice.  Since I can't write thank you notes, Ellen and I made Rhubarb Crisp in small container and took them around to the people who had brought us food.

Wednesday
While Colleen went with the Relief Society to do a Family Home Evening a the nursing home, the kids came down to help Ellen and I in the garden.  we recruited more help.

Get those weeds Caleb

Were trying to get all of the weeds out of the potatoes.  Mallory is an excellent weeder and Caleb puts all of the weeds in a dump truck and hauls them off.

Josh is busily planting more hot pepper plants and watering and staking out the squash seeds that Noelle has planted

Noelle was hot and tired and decided that an inside job would be good.  She cleaned up the bottom hut which was very messy.  Aunt Ellen was very happy to find out she had cleaned up the bottom hut because that was what she was going to have to do.  Beautiful Job Noelle.

After Gardening, we had Otter pops and read stories until Colleen came home.
Then Tesha called and wanted to know if she and the boys could come over and help.  They came over for a fun afternoon of Playing

Ben Playing in the Sprinklers

Zach, Tesha and Ben in the Sprinkliers

 Thursday
This day seemed to be filled with taking care of each other and reading Ellen's book before she gets ready to send it off.

Getting Dad's knee wrapped in Saran Wrap, ready for a shower.
Ellen took us over to Logan for Dad's knee doctor appointment.   They X-rayed the knee and it looked beautiful.  It is straight and alligned very well.  The doctor was very happy with how it looked.

Friday

Dad had a doctors appointment in the morning with Doctor Schow.  Everything looks good from the Dirrhea  incident.  In the afternoon, I went to see Dr. Bitner and had my cast removed and now I'm trying to get my fingers moving again and got a splint.
Mike, Joe and Ellen all came over to have a cookout/birthday party for Tesha and to work in the garden.

Dad relaxing outside and getting some sunshine after explaining to Mike how to hill the potatoes.

Ellen, Joe and Tesha got all the potatoes ready for Dutch oven potatoes, Yum.  Watch out, Joe's going to get them all.

Chris and his family came down for the playing of games and cooking hot dogs.
Playing of Card Games and Avalon.

After Games, Joe cut the boys hair
Joe Cutting Ben's hair

Zach got his hair cut too, and then Tesha Cut Joe's.   We finished off with a late night game of Partner Rook, with me and Tesha and Joe and Mike and of course the women won.  And it was midnight.

Saturday - Happy Birthday Elise! 12 years old and a Young Woman
Mike had Play practice, Ellen had a Dentist appointment.  When Mike got home from Play practice, he finished hilling the potatoes and then we spent the rest of the day watering the garden and lawn while working on Ellen's Book.

1828 Webster's Dictionary Word for the Week:
Charge- To give directions to; to instruct authoritatively; command or earnest request;” (Alma 35:16 “that he might give unto them every one his charge, separately, concerning the things
pertaining unto righteousness”)
Alma continued to teach his sons, even as adults.
I love you all. Thank you for your continued prayers and help. It's been a better week than last week!
